Hearing Disabilities

Assistive Listening systems, Reflective Captioning, Sign Language interpretation, Text Typewriter telephones, Handheld Captioning, Video Captioning and written aids are available to help Guests with hearing disabilities to enjoy the Disneyland Resort.

Assistive Listening Systems

The Disneyland Resort offers Assistive Listening through Disney's Handheld Device, which amplifies sound through headphones or induction loop at specific theme park attractions. Assistive Listening Systems are recommended for Guests with mild to moderate hearing loss. A $25.00 refundable deposit is required, refundable when returned on the same day.

Reflective Captioning

Available at select theater-type attractions, this innovative technology utilizes a light-emitting diode (LED display) to project desired captions onto an acrylic panel in front of the user. To utilize the system, please contact a Cast Member at the location.

Sign Language Interpretation

The Disneyland Resort provides Sign Language interpretation for our Guests at specific live theme park shows on a rotating basis as follows:

Guests should request confirmation of our interpreted performance schedule a minimum of 7 days in advance by calling Disneyland Resort Guest Relations at (714) 781-6176 for voice or (714) 781-7292 for TTY. Guests will be contacted prior to their visit with an appropriate show schedule that lists the names, dates and times of our interpreted performances.

Sign Language interpretation can also be requested for other special events and shows with a minimum of 14 days advanced notice. Requests for interpretation at special events or shows can be made by calling Disneyland Resort Guest Relations at (714) 781-6176 for voice or (714) 781-7292 for TTY. Guests will be contacted prior to their visit to verify arrangements.

Guests under age 18 must have parent or guardian permission to call.

Text Typewriter Telephones

Pay phones marked with a Text Typewriter (TTY) symbol are available at both theme parks and by request in select rooms at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort. All Disneyland Resort telephones can be amplified with the "#" key or by using a separate volume button on the phone.


Handheld Captioning

The Disneyland Resort offers Handheld Captioning through Disney's Handheld Device. This portable captioning system uses a wireless handheld receiver to display text in locations where fixed captioning systems are impractical, such as moving attractions. Receivers are available through Guest Relations and require a $25.00 refundable deposit. You must return the device on the same day for a refund.

Video Captioning

Caption-ready monitors are available in the preshow area at select attractions. These monitors are designated by a "CC" and can only be activated by remote control. Please see a Cast Member at the attraction for assistance.

Written Aids

Packets containing attraction dialogue and narration, flashlight, pencil and paper are available for several attractions and shows. Please inquire about availability prior to experiencing an attraction or show. A complete listing of available written aids is available at the Information Center located in each park.

Select Disneyland Resort attractions and entertainment experiences offer assistance devices for Guests with hearing disabilities. Select an item for information pertaining to each experience:

Service Animals

Trained service animals are welcome in most locations throughout the Disneyland Resort; however, all service animals must remain on a leash or harness at all times. Cast Members are not permitted to handle service animals. Attractions at the Disneyland Resort are accessible to Guests with service animals via the standard queue.
