Trolley Stops and Schedule

With 4 convenient stops, and cars running approximately 8 minutes, take a scenic ride on a vintage street car.

Board or disembark at any of the following locations:

  • Carthay Circle across from Carthay Circle Restaurant. You may pass live entertainment performing in the Carthay Circle and be entertained from your window-seat view.
  • Hollywood Boulevard near the Disney Animation building. This is the bypass point, where one Red Car Trolley heads into the vanishing point of Hollywood Boulevard and the other returns from it.

Disney History in the Details

Look for a bit of Disney history in the interior and exterior details of each of the 2 different cars.

Significant Numbers

Each car is assigned a number that corresponds to significant dates in the Disneyland Resort history.

The red Red Car Trolley is #717—which honors the date Walt Disney dedicated the Disneyland Park: July 17, 1955.

The green Red Car Trolley is #623. In the summer of 1923, Walt Disney and his brother, Roy, arrived in Los Angeles and founded The Walt Disney Company.

Vintage-Looking Ads

Inside both Red Car Trolley vehicles find retro-styled advertisements.

These fun ads, for some of the Buena Vista Street food and merchandise locations, feature names that may be familiar—like Clarabelle’s Ice Cream (for Clarabelle Cow) and Mortimer’s Market (Mortimer was Mickey Mouse’s original name).

The Red Car

The red Red Car Trolley is based on the model of trolleys that rolled across Los Angeles streets in 1925. This is the same model that’s seen in the groundbreaking feature film Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).

Inspiration

These cars, inspired by the historic Pacific Electric Railway trolleys from the 1920s, add atmosphere and authenticity to Hollywood Land.

It was in 1923 that Walt Disney, a young cartoonist with $40 in his pocket and no job, arrived in Los Angeles.

The Original Trolley Cars

By 1925, Southern California tycoon Henry Huntington had built the Pacific Electric Railway and turned it into the largest electrical railways anywhere in the world, with more than 1,000 miles of active track.

The original Pacific Electric Red Cars criss-crossed the Los Angeles area from 1887 until 1961, when this impressive transportation network gave way to the automobile.

“Power”-ful Props

Similar to the original "Hollywood Car" trolleys, the Red Car Trolley vehicles are entirely powered by electricity and are emissions-free vehicles.

However, unlike the original “Hollywood Car” trolleys, the Disney California Adventure cars run on batteries. The overhead wires are just for show!

Travel to the Past

Travel back in time during a leisurely ride on a Red Car Trolley and experience an idealized Los Angeles as Roy & Walt Disney may have seen it.
