A Colorful Cast of Southern Characters
Over 100 talking, singing, storytelling Audio-Animatronics critters call Splash Mountain home. In addition to Br’er Fox, Br’er Bear and Br’er Rabbit, a cast of backwoods critters, including geese, frogs, raccoons, possums, bees and alligators offer up their own slice of southern hospitality during your adventure.
Based on the 1946 Disney classic Song of the South, Splash Mountain tells the bumbling yarn of crafty Br’er Rabbit. After leaving his home in the Briar Patch, Br’er Rabbit embarks on a quest for adventure, fortune and his “laughing place,” while trying to outwit Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox who want to eat him.
The Secret of Briar Patch
When captured, Brer Rabbit pretends to be frightened of the Briar Patch, but he has a secret: the Briar Patch is actually his favorite hideaway, his Laughing Place.
Take the plunge down Splash Mountain and discover Br’er Rabbit's laughing place for yourself!
Guests can surely expect to get wet on this attraction, which includes 950,000 gallons of water, 3 dips and a massive 5-story waterfall. Where you’re seated will determine how wet you’ll likely get. Riders in the back may just experience a sudden splash or spray; those who opt for the front can expect to get soaked.
Longtime Disneyland Park Guests might find many of the Splash Mountain critters familiar. Much of the cast originally made their Disneyland debut at the classic theme park show America Sings, where they performed patriotic melodies in Tomorrowland from 1974 to 1988.
When America Sings successfully completed its run, the beloved performers were recruited to make the trip over to Critter Country for the opening of Splash Mountain in 1989.
