How to Upgrade a Theme Park Ticket

If you have a valid and eligible Disneyland Resort ticket, you may apply the price paid for your ticket towards an available Magic Key pass, with certain restrictions. Simply follow these steps via the Disneyland app:

  • Visit the Tickets and Passes screen. If not linked already, link your ticket to your MyDisney account.
  • Select the ticket(s) you would like to upgrade to a Magic Key pass.
  • Select the “Upgrade to a Magic Key Pass” button and follow the prompts. If you don't see this option, your ticket is ineligible for upgrade or new passes are unavailable for purchase.

Please note the time windows for upgrading, based on type of ticket:

  • One-day tickets – upgrade by midnight on the day of your visit to the Disneyland Resort.
  • Multi-day tickets – upgrade by midnight on or before the last valid day of your ticket.

If your ticket has not been used yet to enter a park, you must go to a ticket booth at the Disneyland Resort to complete the upgrade.

Important Information:

  • Only eligible Disneyland Resort theme park admission media may be upgraded to a Magic Key pass. Fully used tickets, partially used and expired tickets, complimentary tickets, special event tickets and tickets stating they are ineligible for an upgrade may not be upgraded to a Magic Key pass. A wholly unused, expired ticket may be upgraded at any time. Guests must visit an onsite ticket booth in order to make this upgrade; wholly unused tickets cannot be upgraded to Magic Key passes online or in the Disneyland app.
  • A used ticket must be upgraded on or before the last valid day of use of the ticket.
  • A ticket may only be upgraded to an available Magic Key pass so long as the current price of the pass is equal to or greater than the amount paid for the ticket.
  • Magic Key pass types are limited in quantity, and not all Magic Key pass types may be available for purchase or ticket upgrades from time to time or at any given time.
  • Only the amount paid for one (1) theme park ticket may be applied towards the upgrade to one (1) Magic Key pass; tickets may not be combined for an upgrade.
  • The Guest purchasing the upgrade must be the Guest who used the ticket for theme park admission.
  • The Magic Key pass will be backdated to begin on the first day that the theme park ticket was used.
  • Existing park reservations associated with a Guest ticket will not transfer to the Magic Key pass upon upgrade. Separate park reservations associated with the Magic Key pass are required for park entry.
  • Downgrades are not allowed.
  • Current terms, conditions and benefits associated with the newly purchased Magic Key pass will apply at that time.
  • Ticket upgrades must be completed on the Disneyland app by entering from the Tickets and Passes screen, selecting an eligible ticket and clicking “upgrade.” Additionally, tickets cannot be applied retroactively to regular pass purchases.

To enter a Disneyland Resort theme park, Magic Key holders must have both a theme park reservation and Magic Key pass valid for admission to the same park on the same date they plan to visit. Park reservations for Magic Key holders are limited in number and subject to the availability of park reservations allocated to Magic Key passes as determined by Disney, applicable Magic Key pass blockout dates and theme park capacity. A Magic Key pass does not guarantee park entry, even on dates when a Magic Key pass is not blocked out. Magic Key holders, regardless of their Magic Key pass type, are not entitled to any or all reservations Disney makes available to others. Other restrictions apply, as set forth in the Magic Key Terms and Conditions, and may change from time to time in Disney’s discretion without notice or liability.

Magic Key passes do not guarantee access to any experience, attraction or offering. Excludes private, premium or special events; activities that are separately priced; or events that require a separate admission or are not open to the general public.
