Make a summer splash into the fantastic swimming pools at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort
The Disneyland Resort combines two of summer's most popular pastimes—relaxing by the pool and immersing ourselves in Disney magic. If you've ever enjoyed a getaway to the Resort, you know exactly what we're talking about. If you haven't, well, then it's time to dive in—literally!
Each of the Hotels at the Disneyland Resort has its own theme. The Disneyland Hotel is like an extension of the Theme Parks, filled with the kind of magical touches that only Disney could think up. Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel is fashioned after a relaxing seaside resort—kicked-back and totally casual. (Although not many seaside resorts can say they have a statue of "Surfing Goofy" in their lobby!) And Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is as magnificent as a stately redwood, and just as breathtaking to look at. But if you want to see a true reflection of a hotel's personality, look no further than the sparkling waters of its swimming pools.
Fun slides with a side of nostalgia
At the new Disneyland Hotel pool area, you can soak up some good ol' Disneyland nostalgia along with the Southern California sun. The splashy showpiece here is the Monorail Slide Pool featuring a re-creation of the original Disneyland Park entrance sign, two waterslides and a water play area. Next comes the "E" Ticket Pool, named after the E Tickets visitors to the Hotel's namesake Theme Park once used to gain admission to its highest-end attractions. Fans are sure to love replica E Tickets embedded in the tiles along the waterline. Following suit in Disneyland Park tradition is the "D" Ticket Pool, a peaceful place surrounded by gentle geysers. Three well-appointed, rentable cabanas round out the offerings here, as well as Mickey- and Minnie-themed hot tubs and a pair of fun new poolside dining locations, Tangaroa Terrace Casual Island Dining and Trader Sam's—Enchanted Tiki Bar, both inspired by classic Adventureland icons.
Welcome to paradise
Speaking of pools with imaginative waterslides, you have to try the California Streamin' slide at the Paradise Pool, available to Guests of Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. Designed to mimic the style of classic boardwalk roller coasters (like California Screamin' in neighboring Disney California Adventure Park), California Streamin' takes you on a twisting, turning ride before plunging you into the sparkling waters. Once you've had enough sliding, slip into the hot tub or just grab a chaise lounge and bask in the sun.
On select nights, you can even come to the pool deck for a special viewing of the Disneyland Park fireworks—including piped-in music from the Park.
A Grand Getaway
Living up to its image as the grandest of all the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa indulges its Guests with a trio of inviting pools. Centrally located in the Hotel's expansive courtyard, the pools are all within steps of one another—which is great news for families. The adults can take turns playing with the little ones in the foot-deep Mickey Pool and going for an exhilarating ride down the Redwood Pool's unique waterslide—which actually looks like a giant California redwood tree! If you prefer a slower pace, look for the artisan-crafted turtle fountain and you'll discover the aptly named Fountain Pool. All you need is a cold drink and your favorite summer reading material and you'll be set for the afternoon. Swimmers take note: the Fountain Pool is open to Hotel Guests early in the morning for lap swimming—a wonderful way to start the day!
For an additional fee, take advantage of a private cabana that features a flat-panel television, a fan, safe for your personal belongings, wireless Internet access and personalized Cast Member assistance.
Of course, as enticing as these aquatic oases are, there's one catch you should know about. You must be a Guest of the respective Hotel to enjoy its pools. But that's easy to arrange, simply reserve your room now. So why not buy yourself a new swimsuit and make plans to get away to the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort. Come on down, the water's fine!
