Requirements for Travel to the US

Please check the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority for valuable airline, passport and customs information, travel tips and advisories. Be informed on what to pack, what can be carried on board your flight, and travel security information.

The U.S. document requirements for air travel took effect in January 2007, and require Canadian citizens flying to, through or from the United States to present a valid passport or a valid NEXUS card when used at a NEXUS kiosk at participating Canadian airports or at any U.S. airport when returning to Canada. The air travel requirements apply to all Canadian citizens, regardless of age, including children.

In addition, you will need to provide detailed information about your travel plans, destination and accommodations.

As of June 1, 2009, Canadian citizens are required to present a valid passport, a NEXUS or Free and Secure Trade (FAST) card, or an enhanced driver's license/enhanced identification card when seeking to enter the United States at its land or water crossings. Canadian citizens 15 years of age or under will only require proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a Canadian citizenship card. Canadian citizens 18 years of age or under who are traveling with a school or other organized group, under adult supervision with parental/guardian consent may also present proof of Canadian citizenship alone.

For up-to-date information on identification requirements for Canadians visiting the US, please visit the Canada Border Services Agency.

Please plan ahead to ensure that you have the required documents and information for your Disneyland Resort vacation.

Q: How long will it take to receive my passport?

A: Canadian passports generally take at least two to four weeks to acquire, depending on the method used to apply for the passport. For updated processing times, visit Passport Canada.

Q: How can I make sure I receive my passport as quickly as possible?

A: Errors on your application may result in delays. Avoid them by referring to the step-by-step guide on the Passport Canada website for a description of common mistakes people make while completing their passport application.

Applying in person at a Passport Canada office is the fastest way to get a passport. Please keep in mind that Mondays and Fridays tend to be the busiest days.

Q: If I enter the US by land without a passport, will I require a passport to board a US domestic flight (i.e., Seattle to Los Angeles)?

A: No. The new US passport requirements apply to passengers on international flights only. Passengers boarding US domestic flights are not legally required to have a passport; however, all passengers must show proof of their identity. Contact your airline to determine their identification requirements.
