In 1762, the esteemed John Montagu invented the sandwich; later, his descendants perfected it—now you need to try it!
You may have had sandwiches before, but none compare to those from Earl of Sandwich. All their signature creations begin with an artisan loaf that’s baked to perfection then piled high with choice ingredients that would do the Earl proud—the premium meats are roasted fresh each morning using cherished family recipes. Yes, they’re serious about freshness!
Feast on your heavenly handheld inside the bright rotunda dining room or on the cheery red patio, or get it to go and enjoy the convenient deliciousness its inventor intended. Located near the AMC 12 Theatres in the Downtown Disney District, Earl of Sandwich makes a quick and satisfying pre- or post-movie meal.
Signature Hot Sandwiches, Wraps, Salads and More
The Original 1762 is the star of the menu, and when you taste it you’ll know why. This noble sandwich features tender Angus roast beef, sharp cheddar and creamy horseradish sauce. The Earl’s Club and The Full Montagu® with turkey and roast beef pay homage to the resourceful British Navy commander, while chipotle chicken avocado, holiday turkey and Caprese sandwiches are among the fleet of new favorites. The Earl also features freshly tossed salads, made-to-order wraps, signature soups, pizza breads and desserts.
The Earl does breakfast too! Served daily until 11:00 AM, drop by for eggs on mini artisan loaves with combinations like bacon and cheddar or ham and Swiss. Freshly brewed Peet’s coffee, muffins, oatmeal, fruit cups and yogurt parfaits offer more get-up-and-go options.
Before setting sail, try the Earl Grey Lemonade, a refreshing take on the Arnold Palmer. Beer and wine are also available for brigadiers 21 and over.
John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, was known for many things before devising this most revolutionary food. As First Sea Lord, he commanded the venerable British Navy and was also a noted explorer.
But lore has it that his love of gambling, often from day into night, led Montagu to put meat between 2 slices of bread so that he could satisfy his need for nourishment without stepping away from the card table. This ingenious idea quickly caught on when savvy cohorts began requesting “the same as Sandwich!” In 1762, the world’s first fast food was named after its creator, John Montagu, the Earl of Sandwich—and the rest, as they say, is history.
Some 250 years later, the current 11th Earl and the Sandwich family continue a proud family tradition of crafting quality sandwiches using only the freshest ingredients, making it easy for anyone, earl or otherwise, to enjoy a great meal on the go.
